The Willow Creek Rehabilitation Center underwent a full-scale transformation following severe flood damage that devastated the building’s interior. Under the direction of the the Complete Care team, the facility was entirely reimagined, requiring extensive planning, engineering, and execution to bring it back to life.
The project went far beyond surface repairs — it was a complete reimagining of the facility’s layout. Every interior wall was removed, and the entire facility was reconfigured to optimize resident care, improve staff efficiency, and modernize building systems. This comprehensive reconfiguration included:
With the interior stripped down to its structure, the entire facility’s infrastructure was rebuilt to modern standards. All HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection systems were replaced to improve energy efficiency, climate control, and life safety. The kitchen was completely redesigned and rebuilt with upgraded equipment and improved layout to enhance food service capabilities.
The project presented numerous regulatory challenges. GutVann Architecture worked closely with the New Jersey Department of Health (DOH) to navigate licensing requirements, addressing programmatic changes and ensuring facility compliance. The design team also coordinated with the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing approvals, ensuring that all aspects of the project met code requirements.
In addition to state approvals, the team collaborated with the local building department and township officials to secure permits and address local regulations. Detailed wayfinding plans, egress strategies, and evacuation mapping were developed to enhance safety and ensure smooth facility operation.
The complex renovation was successfully managed by Dynamic Design Associates, led by David Mashinsky and Chaim Engel, whose team executed the ambitious design with precision. On-site coordination was managed by Gavriel Brun, the dedicated site foreman, ensuring construction progressed efficiently and adhered to design intent.
GutVann Architecture remained actively involved throughout the process, providing comprehensive construction administration services. This included reviewing submittals, conducting site visits, and participating in inspections with DOH, DCA, and local authorities to maintain compliance and quality control.
Once the core reconfiguration and systems overhaul were complete, the facility was finished with carefully selected interior materials designed to create a warm and inviting environment. New flooring, wall finishes, and ceiling systems brought the project to life, providing residents with a modern yet comfortable atmosphere.
The result is a completely transformed Willow Creek Rehabilitation Center — a facility rebuilt from the ground up to provide superior care, improved safety, and enhanced comfort. By combining thoughtful design, upgraded systems, and innovative care spaces, Willow Creek now stands as a model for modern rehabilitation facilities.
